Is it a truck that plays games, or a gaming system you can drive?

The Toyota Tacoma All-Terrain Gamer unveiled this week at the 2009 SEMA Show is one of those vehicles that defies easy explanation, but is still very cool.

Toyota selected a 2009 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab Long Bed PreRunner as their platform. It has a V6 and five-speed manual transmission. They enlisted the help of customizers B.A.D. Company to transform it into the mobile gaming command center you see here.

B.A.D. Company started by removing the b-pillars and installed double gull-wing doors in their place. When swung open, the doors also provide shade and shelter -- like a mobile patio awning. That's when the fun starts. The front seats can be pulled out and mounted on the doors to create four-abreast theater-style seating. Four TV monitors swing into place in front of the seats. Four Microsoft Xbox consoles allow for side-by-side-by-side-by-side competitive gaming. Visitors at the show could climb up and compete against each other in Microsoft's latest first-person shooter for Xbox, HALO ODST.

The exterior is painted in metallic anthracite to match the look of an Xbox console. The hood includes a clear acrylic view port. An INNO Wide Ridge Cargo box is attached to a roof mounted roll bar, along with INNO bike racks carrying a pair of Cannondale bikes (for when you get tired of gaming and need some real exercise). The rear of the All-Terrain Gamer features a 66-inch plasma TV monitor with custom roll cage enclosure, so even non-combatants can enjoy watching the gaming action.

That action is intensified by 2,150 watt studio grade Kicker audio system. Additional interior upgrades include four Simpson custom-upholstered off-road racing seats with four-point racing harnesses and a custom three-tone upholstered interior. It also has a mini-fridge with drink dispenser.

Toyota's Racing Development (TRD) team pitched-in with a supercharger to boost engine output to 304-horsepower. The truck rides on TRD 16-inch bead lock wheels with BF Goodrich all-terrain tires for better off-road stability and increased traction.

Does the world really need a vehicle that can carry you and three friends off into the wilderness to play video games? Maybe not, but it sure is cool.
